Two are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help…(Ecclesiastes 4: 9 – 10a)
On Wednesday, October 3rd in Denver, the race to choose the next American president entered another stage with the two candidates meeting on the first debate as part of their campaigns. That day was also the 20th wedding anniversary of the incumbent US president – Barack Obama.
Obama greeted his wife in his opening remarks at the debate and also tweeted earlier on in the day, “Twenty years ago today, I married the love of my life and my best friend. Happy anniversary, Michelle. -bo”.
It is often said that behind every successful man is a woman. This is true for every successful woman too! One may try to dispute this saying by claiming that there are many succesful men and women who are not married, but what we cannot tell is if their performance would have been beter if they had a supportive spouse and helper to collaborate with and help them succeed even more.
God intends for the two to make a “better” or “greater” one. Citizens of most countries are interested in the marriage of their leaders and expect their leaders to show good examples in their marriage. We are all often interested in the marriages of stars and celebrities and are happy when they succeed.
The world tries to make us believe that marraige is no longer important, but really .. two are definitely better than one. If you are married, this is one more reason to put in the best into your marriage to make it work.
Let’s work together for the success of our spouse – look for ways to work for each others success and build one another up in your most holy faith.
