So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! – 1 Corinthians 10:12 NIV UK.
David H. Petraeus, CIA Director resigned last week from his post after admitting he had an extra-marital affair.
The following are excerpts from a statement he made after his resignation,
“After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.”
“… I will always treasure my opportunity to have done that with you and I will always regret the circumstances that brought that work with you to an end.”
Indeed as the leader of an organisation such as the CIA, Petraeus should have known the implications of having an affair and was right about it being extremely poor judgement. The story is still unfolding.
We could say he should have known better, but the Bible warns us to be careful if we think we stand so that we don’t fall.
Be careful in your relationships with friends and acquaintances so that you don’t make mistakes. Pray for yourself and your spouse and do your best to “affair-proof” your marriage. Don’t just take each other for granted,
Work on yourself. Take good care of yourself and keep yourself looking attractive to your husband or wife as much as possible. Create time to enjoy life with your spouse. Learn to appreciate each other, express your love for each other and have great sex.
Follow the preacher’s advice below –
Drink water from your own well—
share your love only with your wife.
Why spill the water of your springs in the streets,
having sex with just anyone?
You should reserve it for yourselves.
Never share it with strangers.
Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth. – Proverbs 5:15-18 NLT
